A data-driven method, the Keyword Golden Ratio (KGR) helps you find high gain word among the keywords and cross over the competitors.
The Keyword Golden Ratio (KGR) is a data-driven way that helps you find under served keywords on the internet.
Finding a KGR (Keyword Golden Ratio) phrase and using it as a part of your content, can make your article rank in the top 50’s within a couple of hours or days. This method can work for new websites with less age. However, websites with decent authorities and older ages can rank high to top 15.
Reasons why KGR works well:
Reading the post till the end, will make you curious to try the KGR tool yourself!
The case study below will prove to you that Keyword Golden Ratio can boost revenue and bring in higher traffic.
Jaron, a beginner in the blogging side, hit $100 per month for a 4-month old website by using KGR terms!
He had been publishing KGR posts throughout the year and have progressed from $350 a month in March 2018 to $100 a day, in just a couple of months!
In a period of a few months, the website rose from $100 to $3000 a month, a profit of 3000% just within a year!
Curious to know the details? Lets seek through!
The Keyword Golden Ratio is calculated by:
The number of Google results that have the keyword phrase in the title divided by the monthly search volume, where the search volume should be less than 250.
A KGR value of lesser than 0.25 makes you rank in the top 50’s soon after your page is indexed.
A KGR value between 0.25 and 1 makes you rank pretty fast in the top 250.
Therefore, using a KGR value of or under 0.25 is very beneficial, especially in the start. This is a well-tested approach by many people. As soon as your blog gets a large number of target audience, you can go for KGR values between 0.25 and 1.
Usage of a search volume of or below 250 due to a few reasons.
The optimal point for KGR is 0.25. As used in the formula, dividing a lower volume by any number of search results gives you lower KGR value. In other words, search volume and KGR ratio are directly proportional. So a lower search volume yields low KGR ratio, that makes you rank in the top 50 quickly.
A search volume of 250 and KGR value of 0.25, makes you end up with about 63 allintitle results. The pages on web, that are targeting the same keyword phrase, and using it as title for their article.
It is an advanced Google search operator which can display results that have all words with the post’s meta title.
You need to write the word followed by colon and the keyword phrase with no spaces in between. This shows all search results where the exact keyword is being used as a title. We can perform a specific searches with this keyword.
On exceeding the limit, you’ll have to prove you’re not a bot by entering a Captcha.
Targeting long-tail and ultra long-tail keywords will make your website get out of the Google Sandbox faster.
Using long and ultra long tail keywords drives traffic to your blog even if you are not getting out of the google sandbox. The time taken to exit the sandbox is not yet confirm.
However, many people who have used KGR terms get traffic on their brand new websites within weeks, not even months.
Google has a variety of variables to pass the sandbox, so using just KGR compliant terms cannot skip the process.
However, since KGR terms use low search volumes and with long and ultra long tail keywords the competition goes way to low.
This makes the site and blog rank on top very easily, irrespective of other variables associated.
High-volume keywords are more competitive as many established companies with websites rank well with it.
So, they are making money and can also reinvest amount earned to get links and improve the content and keep getting ranked.
It might be by Google, that it slows down the rate at which websites can rank based on their keyword search volume.
Lets go through a few actual examples of keywords fitting the KGR.
This is an example of a niche that has been used in several public case studies – the shaver niche. I will try not to reveal someone’s keywords or websites.
We will use an example of a basic niche, of home remedy. We use this word for many purposes, it has high competition, many public websites and imitators, but we still have KGR options available with it.
Autosuggest from google or the keyword research tool you are using can be used for this.
We can manually do this with a few hit and trials.
Keyword tools like SpuFu with Keyword Difficulty(KD) metric and advanced filtering options makes you save plenty of time and extra efforts.
We can go to the ‘Keyword Research’ tab and enter the search phrase in the search bar, then click on the “Search” button. You can also select a target location, by clicking the flag icon of country to display results specific to them.
This shows us a list of results. We need to worry about the Search Volume and Keyword Difficulty – the other metrics aren’t important now.
Keep in mind, that the KGR requires that the search volume to be under 250.
You can view related keywords with their search volumes given on right side for each. Select the most appropriate one with least search volume from the autosuggest options. Then check its keyword difficulty value.
Using the keyword ‘best home remedy for ingrown hair’ we get a search volume of 100, less than 250. They Keyword Difficulty for this is 0. This gives very favourable result. Next we check the allintitle results
We will check the advanced Google Search command, the allintitle.
Type allintitle: – the word followed by a colon and then the search phrase without any space or quotes. Entering quotes lowers the search results and may vary your calculations, so better avoid it.
The number of results returned by Google is used as the numerator value of the KGR formula.
The search phrase gives 3 results that can be used in the formula.
(3/100) = 0.03 (add picture)
Amazing! The value is way too less than 0.25, so we have a great KGR ratio with 0 KD.
To view a video of the process, do check our demo for how to calculate the KGR using the SpyFu tool: (add video)
If we use a keyword phrase with allintitle as 0, it makes the KGR ratio 0, way too low than 0.25 itself, providing an awesome keywords phrase.
Another example: (allintitle:best home remedy for acne scars)
Gives 10 results.
and 70 as the search volume, giving a KGR ratio of 10/70 = 0.14 < 0.25
The term “best home remedy for acne overnight” has a low KD value, so its good.
For the allintitle, it gives only 70 results, that’s great!
But, it has a search volume of 1100, way more greater than 250.
KGR = 70/1100 = 0.0636 < 0.25
So, can this be a KGR Compliant Keyword?
No, it can’t. The keyword has good KD value, allintitle, google search results and a KGR ratio much lower than 0.25. However, the higher search volume being greater than 250 doesn’t fill the criteria. So, to rank well on Google and have less competition, the search volume should be below 250. A term not meeting a single criteria becomes a non-KGR term.
For your help, I have created this spreadsheet to accelerate the process.
On filling the list of keywords and search volume from KWFinder. A column gets auto-populated with a hyperlink containing the allintitile followed by your keyword.
On entering the allintitle results, the KGR gets auto-calculated. As per the KGR result value, the cell turns green, red or yellow.
You can make your own copy and edit the spreadsheet.
Both KD and KGR methods help us find keywords that rank easily, so whilst comparing the two, which one should be chosen?
They both can be correct, so you don’t have to chose between the two. They consider different factors to scale the competition of the selected keyword.
The major difference is:
The Keyword Difficulty metric is based on the Link Profile Strength (LPS) of the currently ranking web pages whilst the Keyword Golden Ratio is based on the websites having the exact keyword as their title.
So, the KD metric considers the following:
And, the KGR value guides us to check if the webmaster specifically targets a keyword phrase or not. If the webmaster is not pulling the phrase in the title, then we can assume that the keyword is not intentionally being targeted.
Both metrics are very useful in scaling the competition even if they give a solution from various directions.
If your keyword phrase is KGR compliant and has low KD value, that gives a killer keyword!
If your keyword phrase has poor KGR and KD values, it is likely a tough keyword to rank.
The KGR is an outstanding tool and can help you get traffic fast. But it’s not all the colors and gummy worms. These are a few things to think about the Keyword Golden Ratio.
Since KGR terms are often long-tail words, around 3 or more. Keyword stuffing should be avoided. The keyword phrase should not be used very frequently in the content.
It looks very unnatural and weird to fit long phrases frequently in the content, so this should be avoided.
For example, repeating “best shampoo for dry hair” more than a couple of times would look very weird.
The general principle should be to use the KGR phrase once in the title, and then once in the content body. Related phrases and partial match keywords can be used once or twice in the content.
Use it, but don’t overuse it.
Sometimes, even though the metrics show its a good keyword, but the KGR phrase will not rank well.
Why is this so?
Google figures what an end user, the searching person, has interest in.
For example, if you have an affiliate website and you want to search similar ones on the first page of results.
So, when you find your KGR term, you first Google it to check and then use it and publish.
If you are able to get any KGR term, you should always Google it first then write and publish the content. See the results to examine what Google delivers to the person searching – their search intent.
If it mostly shows e-commerce sites, the searchers are more interested in those results more than affiliate sites.
If majority of the results show YouTube videos, it means searchers like seeing a video.
If the term is related to medical or health, then you’re likely to view many large medical authorities like WebMD, Mayo Clinic, medical journals and other related sites with good trust in the medical field.
Google shows the sites ranking high in search results, you just need to carefully seek through.
Not being able to see similar sites like yours ranking high is a bad sign. This shows that a good KGR value may not rank well.
Keyword hunting is a skill, which gets better when you do it more. So, it might be difficult to find KGR terms initially.
Tools like SpyFu greatly ease the process, but you also need to spend much time on it.
Another magic of KGR is, you need to check the keywords manually, the tool won’t do things itself. Continued usage can make you a pro at it!
Keyword Golden Ratio works greatly at scale. I will suggest to check 25 KGR terms for your site.
Research shows that around 5% KGR terms perform well than what we expect. 15% worse than expected, and 80% rank well in the top 40 – 50 results.
The 80% are expected to go higher in rank with time based on the content’s quality, relative competition and your website’s authority.
So, publishing only a single KGR compliant post, may not rank. It can be considered a failure. You need to publish enough posts for a good try and you will see the magic.
Can the KGR terms search be automated? Will any tool do that for me?
No, any tool cannot do the entire thing. even if any developer try’s to automate the process, the Captcha can make problems.
Configuring the app can be troublesome so support for such apps can destroy the margins to make it profitable. You can go for it if interested!
Choose one tool and use it always. Every keyword search volume is an estimate – even the ones straight from Google.
Every keyword research tools will use varying algorithms for generating estimates for search volume. So an exact search volume won’t matter a lot.
A keyword’s relative volume as compared to another keyword is important. i.e. Keyword A getting twice more searches than Keyword B.
The KGR performs its way despite the imprecise nature of keyword search volumes.
It can be used. However, technically, it is not a KGR term based as per its definition.
Anyhow, you got a keyword with a smaller number of competition so that’s a nice thing.
It may not make you rank that early, but it can be for any keyword where you are not considering the competition graph.
You should think about 2 major aspects:
1. Suppose if the search volume for a term you found is 10,000. For a KGR of 0.25, it means you have 2,500 other websites having the keyword phrase in their title and are most probably targeting that keyword.
2. The KGR definition targets ratio of or under 0.25 with a search volume of or below 250. Using these values, you can only compete with a maximum of 62.5 other websites using the same keyword phrase.
One strong reason why it enables to rank easily in the top 50’s as a maximum of 62.5 competitors using the stated values of low search volume and a ratio below 0.25, is near to top 50’s and makes you rank well easily..
A few months older site with some solid backlinks can use KGR for reference only, not as per the exact rule.
Being a bit looser you can opt for higher search volumes like 500 or 1000 searches per month and KGR values between 0.8 and 1.5 or any suitable range near to these.
